Exploration Activity

The exploration stage in the mining process is the process of searching for mineral deposits in a particular area to ascertain the economic value of a mine site. This stage includes the study of the geological, geophysical, geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of the site.

The initial exploration activity is to conduct mapping to find laterite areas which are the process of weathering rocks to form Nickel. After localizing the location that has the potential for Nickel formation, then to confirm the existing resources, drilling is necessary.

Drilling was carried out from a hole spacing of 100m, then re-localized the area that has Economic Nickel levels, then drilling in the area by reducing the distance, namely with a 50m drill hole spacing. Then re-localize the potential area and drill with 25m drill hole spacing.
After the drilling activity is completed with a spacing of 25m, the grade analysis data from the drill sample is submitted to the Mine Plan for data processing to determine how much resource is economical for mining. If the value is economical then the activity continues with mining activities, but if it is not economical then the activity cannot be continued to the mining stage.

Mining Activities

After the exploration data is processed by the Mine Plan, it will be known the amount of economic reserves that are feasible to mine, and the lowest grade that can be mined or Cut Of Grade (COG). The Mine Plan will create a mine plan from the beginning of the opening until the ore is mined out.

Installation of Area Boundaries

Tape installation at the boundary of the area to be mined (pit limit) is carried out by a team of surveyors.

Clearing

Clearing is the activity of cleaning the area that will be mined. This activity is carried out by the Operations Department using heavy equipment Bulldozer and Excavator class 20 tons. In carrying out this activity, you must follow the standard procedures that have been determined and must pay attention to work safety.

Ore Extraction (Nickel Ore)

After cleaning is completed, the area is ready for ore collection. Before ore is taken, sampling must first be carried out by the Grade Control team. Sampling can be done in several ways, namely, pit tests, trenching, channel sampling, and grab sampling. After knowing the area that can be set (according to COG), ore can be taken according to the level determined by the Mine Plan.

Ore Hauling

After ore collection and ore has been collected in the Pit, Ore Hauling is carried out, namely the transfer of ore from the Pit to the stockpile (EFO). Before entering the stockpile, each Dump Truck (DT) must stop at the sample post for sampling to ensure the level of ore being hauled to the stockpile.

Production Sample Analysis

Samples taken from each DT that stops at the Sample Post are processed in the lab for analysis to determine the Nickel content value. The analysis is carried out by the Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QAQC) Division and then reported to the Grade Control and Mine Plan teams.

Shipments

After the production results are sufficient in terms of quantity and quality, the QAQC Division will make a shipment simulation (shipment plan) of Ni levels determined by management. Barging is carried out by the Operations Department and supervised by supervisors from the QAQC Division, so that the shipment plan can be carried out properly according to the target.

Every DT (Dump Truck) barging is required to stop at the sample post to take samples to determine the level of ore shipped and will later be used for tax payments to the government.

Reclamation

Reclamation is carried out to organize, restore and improve the quality of the environment and ecosystems so that they can function again according to their designation. After the ore has been mined out, PT TMS is obliged to carry out reclamation activities carried out by a team from the HSE Department, especially the Environment Division.
